Dental Fillings
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay to its normal function and shape. When Dr. Wesley Smith gives you a filling, he first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material. In our office dental fillings, include amalgams and composite.
If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity, the most common early warning sign of tooth decay, give Dr. Smith a call. He can diagnose its underlying cause.
Crowns and Bridges
Dr. Wesley Smith may recommend that you undergo a dental crown procedure for one of several reasons: you have a particularly weak tooth that needs to be held together or requires a bridge; you have a tooth that is extremely discolored; or you wish to have a crown placed for cosmetic reasons. Crowns are a restoration used to strengthen a tooth or improve its shape. Crowns are most often used for teeth that are broken, worn, or partially destroyed by tooth decay. A dental crown restores a tooth's shape, size, and strength giving you back your smile.
After a thorough exam, Dr. Smith will discuss treatment options with you and answer your questions. If the agreed upon-treatment is a dental crown, you will be scheduled for two appointments one to prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown then you will return 2-3 weeks later to have the custom lab created crown cemented into place. Crowns can be made with ceramic, (porcelain) or precious metals and gold.
Temporary Crown and Bridge Care
While the crown is made you play an important part by keeping up with your homecare. Avoiding sticky foods such as gum, carmels, bagels, etc and not flossing the temporary helps prevent it from coming off prematurely. If the temporary crown does come off call the office immediately! If you are out of town place a small amount of denture adhesive or temporary dental cement inside the crown and place back in then call the office for assistance
If you have a problem tooth, call Dr. Smith today. We can schedule your appointment over the phone.
Routine Dental Checkups
Routine dental checkups are vital to good oral hygiene and are the best way to detect problems at their earliest stages. Early detection and treatment saves unnecessary discomfort, time and money. The Academy of General Dentistry recommends checkups twice a year. Oral hygiene needs change with age and the condition of your teeth and gums.
During an exam, your dentist will use an intraoral camera with sophisticated magnification and lighting to see all surface areas inside your mouth. Dr. Smith looks not only for cracked and decayed teeth, but also for growths and sores on the roof and floor of your mouth, tongue, lips, gums, and the mucous membranes that line your cheeks and gums. We will also examine the gums and bone, while reviewing previous and new radiographic images. Make your appointment today for your cleaning and check-up. Wesley B. Smith, DDS is always accepting new patients.
Children's Dental Cleanings
Bringing your child in for dental cleanings at least twice a year is a great preventive measure that can keep the oral disease at bay. We will floss in between your child's teeth and use special tools to remove any tartar (hardened, built up plaque). Then, we will use a motorized brush and some toothpaste to clean and polish the teeth.
Infants Need Care Too
Once the first tooth appears in the mouth a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head, preferably one designed specifically for infants, should be used at least once a day at bedtime to remove plaque bacteria which can lead to decay.
